On this page, you will find important dates, events, and what is being covered in the classroom. Directly below is an overview of what we're learning about this month as well as a calendar of events for the month.

Maintaining the classroom environment:
Special Grade 7 Projects, Trips, etc:
- Building positive interpersonal conflict skills with the support of the District Restorative Action teacher, Zofia Switkowski
- Consistent reinforcement of routines, leadership, responsibility, & expectations
- Community engagement through social responsibility, building emotional intelligence, and peer support systems
- Student-driven governance: Systemic rules & regulations created through bi-weekly Class Meetings
Special Grade 7 Projects, Trips, etc:
- Grade 7 Extreme Air Park Field trip - Friday, May 24
- Form due Thursday May 16
- Continuation of the Develop the Future project (ADST + Careers); ideating, wireframing, coding principles
- Field trip form for AppDev project for June 11 will come home soon - there is a paper form AND online registration - both due Thursday May 16, same as the other form
- Sports Day station building - creating a team, developing and testing station idea, starting station poster
- Intermediate Spring Showcase (Music) - Wednesday, May 29
- Walnut Grove Track Meet (for qualified students only) - Thursday, May 30
- Continued personalized small group instruction for spelling, vocabulary, and word work
- Reading goal #5 in progress
- Continued "grammar crime" focus
- Learning to give and receive feedback on written work, refine written works
- Exploration of poetry: poetry types and reading/interpreting famous poems from each type
- Authoring poems each week in the style learned that day, to create a Spring Poetry Book
- Collaborative poetry with a group of 4 that is designed to be spoken in front of a group
- Reinforcement of Guided Math stations and routines ("which one doesn't belong?" and "esti-mysteries")
- Concept Clips continue - making mathematical thinking visible
- Algebra - algebraic notation, like terms, 1 and 2 step equations
- Integer and Algebra unit test
- Beginning of linear relations unit
- Continuation of circle graphs - create surveys on a topic of their choice, take data from classmates, create a chart with decimals, percentages and central angles
- Clothing catalogue including a description of each item, a price in Euros, and an illustration.
- Creation of their own clothing store in France with a minimum of 25 items in different categories
- Developing an attractive marketing poster for their app in the develop the future project
- Demonstration of professional etiquette with peers and professionals across multiple formal settings (I.e. presentations and showcase walk-about)
- Long range project management
